We get asked often about what we’d do if the weather gets cloudy or rainy. Gray and blotchy weather can be the perfect opportunity to go after that Dark & Moody tones, with soft diffused lighting from the clouds and some spontaneous bursts of sunlight.

If the Dark & Moody is the style you are after, our recommendation is to choose a spot that is well shaded with many dark rocks, brown grass in Autumn through to Winter.

Another point is to plan your photoshoot later in the evening, to avoid that mid-day sun that can overpower the scene.

Bonus points if it’s a windy spot that could bring sudden gusts of wind for some magical candid moments, for example Muriwai Beach in Auckland or Makara Bay in Wellington.
