Keeping this in mind, there are a number of wedding venues available to hire in Queenstown, as well as free-for-use public locations whether it's a quaint chapel, a private farmstead or a snug cottage nestled along the Wakatipu Basin.

Here are some of the most popular wedding venues and locations in Queenstown.

  1. Heli Weddings at Coromandel Peak

Known for its picturesque backdrop seen in many award-winning Wedding Photos, Coromandel Peak is a privately owned mountain-top location on Mt Roy in Wanaka.

Access to this location is available via Helicopter from Queenstown or Wanaka, with the helicopter charter flight price ranging from $1500 to $3500 depending on where you fly from. The charter prices also include the private land usage permit fee of $500 for 1 hour.

Coromandel Peak is suitable for small and intimate weddings and elopements.

2. Weddings at Moke Lake

Moke Lake is a popular recreation and Wedding spot just 15 minutes north of Queenstown, with clear fishing lakes and deep valleys surrounding the area - no cell phone signal here sorry!

The area is run by the Department of Conservation, and a permit can be obtained easily for less than $200, or set up a larger function at the Horse Treks site at Moke Lake with Ben Lomond Horse Treks. Hire wedding furniture to be delivered and set up at your desired site, and you’re all good to go.

Moke Lake can be accessed by car - just be careful of the narrow and windy roads and oncoming traffic.

3. Weddings at Lake Wakatipu

Lake Wakatipu is the third largest lake in New Zealand and at 84 km long, it’s also the longest, spanning all the way from Kingston to the south, up through Queenstown and Glenorchy to the north.

You could get married anywhere here, with a small concession required from the DOC for wedding with more than 10 guests.

Our recommendation for a lake-side wedding would be at Kelvin Heights, Bobs Cove and at Glenorchy.
